Sonic Forces: Tikal Review

Image
The best part about Sonic Forces in my eyes is the variety that comes with each of the available runners. While the basic attribution of a throwing object, boost, and obstacle are always there, each character has their own unique way of employing these skills. Typically, however, they always rely on strength overall in order to trip up other runners, making their skill sets more about the brawn than the brains. Tikal, however, is a fresh addition to the game as of earlier this month, bringing with her a variety of skills that help to spice up each race. This is mostly because, while many other characters can rely on their strength in order to beat out faster runners or simply players that are ahead of them, using Tikal requires a bit of strategy because of what she brings to the table. Firstly, Tikal's speed is what makes it easy to get ahead of other players once you collect enough rings. At 100 rings, Tikal can blast by the competition, especially when she uses her boo

Fate/Grand Order: Murder at the Kogetsukan Story Review

Image
As I've mentioned before, Fate/Grand Order often excels when it comes to telling a good, engaging story that retains audience attention while also maintaining the fun gaming experience that comes with its turn-based fighting system. While that fighting system is utilized sparsely in this event, the story itself maintains a good pace, atmosphere, and general mystery about it so as to always keep the audience engaged. While the event is now over and the story isn't accessible to anyone who hasn't already played through it, I figured I'd highlight it only because "Murder at the Kogetsukan" is something Fate/Grand Order hasn't really done before with its events. And that's to tell a story not for the sake of a new welfare Servant, but rather in order to experiment with the ways in which storytelling can be employed through the medium of a gacha game. The story starts out simple enough: Your character wakes up to find he's been transported in

Sonic Forces: Longclaw Review

Sonic Forces: Longclaw Review I think what makes Sonic Forces Speed Battle a much more enjoyable runner for me than Sonic Dash is the level of detail that goes into each character that makes the competitive spirit of the game that much more unique. In Sonic Forces, characters all have their own abilities that, while similar, do different things when it comes to how they can impact each character. We have speed-based characters meant to fly by with their increased acceleration and quick attacks. There are strength-based characters that, while slow, deliver hard-hitting blows that make it easy for them to zoom on by other players. And then we have outlier characters (Metal Sonic comes to mind) that focus on doing as much damage as possible while also moving at a breakneck pace. Longclaw--the newest addition to the game--falls straight into the category of a speed-driven character. Her stats are the first indication of this, given that she has the maximum acceleration that an

BanG Dream! Vs Live Event: A First-Timer's Perspective

BanG Dream! Vs Live Event: A First-Timer's Perspective (I'm an idiot and didn't screencap anything prior to posting so I'm sorry, this is gonna be really rambly). I love rhythm games. So much so that I would download every single available Idolm@ster if it didn't cause me to lose more time than I already am. So when I decided to start playing BanG Dream!, I was already pretty sure of what to expect. I was pretty confident in my ability to play the game, so much so that I skipped the Easy and Normal difficulty settings and went straight to Hard. This didn't provide much of a challenge for me outside of the general challenges that come with playing a new game nearer to the highest difficulty from the outset. I'm not going to talk about the story all too much because 1.) I've been logging into the game since October so I'd have to go back and see what happened to remind myself and 2.) I spent most of this time playing the Vs Live event that

Fate/Grand Order Event: Fate/Apocrypha Inheritance of Glory Review

Fate/Grand Order Event: Fate/Apocrypha - Inheritance of Glory Review Full disclosure: Whenever there's an event in a gacha game, I rarely ever decide to read the story. Typically, it's never as good as the main questline--if that's ever good at all--and just feels like a waste of time. It's not canon to the rest of the game, the arc it follows isn't going to matter in the long run, so who cares too much about what happens? The only exception I make for this, however, is for events in Fate/Grand Order. Fate has a way of creating stories that are captivating due to its interesting cast of characters (even if some of them tend to be a little one-note), tongue-in-cheek storytelling, and funny easter eggs referencing other products in the franchise. That isn't to say that every event story in the game is great (Saber Wars is proof enough of that), but sometimes the game has those moments where a one-off event can make me feel (see "The Little Santa Alte
